Description
The different types of LED lights are highly popular in comparison to traditional incandescent lights, mainly because they can last about 25 times longer and with less energy use. One of the latest features in LEDs is COB´s or “Chip on Board” technology, another step to more efficient energy usage. Like SMDs, COB chips have multiple diodes on the same surface, so one of the key differences between LED COB light and SMD light is that COB LEDs have more diodes.
COB chips typically have 9 or more diodes, also, it only has 1 circuit and 2 contacts, regardless of the number of the diodes. This design is the reason for the panel or tube-like appearance of a COB LED light; on the other hand, an SMD light appears like a series of smaller lights, like illuminated dots. Some COB chips are also known to produce a large number of lumens (brightness) with less energy, a large viewing angle, and other related excellent characteristics that make COB widely used.
COB technology offers increased levels of light dispersion, eliminating those dark then bright patches created by narrow beam fittings, additionally, COBs have greater reliability and a longer lifespan than the SMD LEDs, with 3M adhesive tape on the backside, high color efficiency, uniform illumination. A COB LED achieves higher brightness with a more uniform appearance than its predecessors.
